Arras 4 Seater Bench
Description
A very attractive 4 seater bench manufactured by Grassin-Baledans in the Northern French town of Arras in the early 20th century.
Arras garden furniture is extremely popular - as it has been since the mid 19th century, when the privileged classes discovered the benefits of outdoor living.
The term Arras now refers to garden furniture produced in the eponymous French region between 1840 and 1920, from semi-hollow steel tubing known as fer elegi.
Earlier Arras furniture has lion's paw style feet. This smart bench however has horse's hooves and scrolled arms dating the item as a later Arras item probably manufactured between 1890 and 1914.
An elegant and collectible piece which even now has quite a contemporary look would grace any patio or garden.
