Oeil De Boeuf Mirror
Description
A beautiful and unusual mirror made from an original French oeil-de-boeuf window frame.
Oeil-de-boeuf translates as "bullseye" and is the name given to a small round or oval window which was usually sited on the gable end or above the door of a building. Oeil-de-boeuf windows were a typical feature of French Baroque architecture, and this particular example has the elaborate decoration of this style.
Made from zinc, the frame has beautifully curved edges, with a face moulded at the top, gazing down towards what's now the mirror glass. A really lovely reimagining of an original architectural piece.
