Pair of Arras Chairs
Description
A beautiful pair of green "Chaise No. 1" Arras chairs with typical horse hoof feet.
Arras garden furniture is extremely popular - as it has been since the mid 19th century, when the privileged classes discovered the benefits of outdoor living. The term "Arras" now refers to garden furniture produced in the eponymous French region between 1840 and 1920, from semi-hollow steel tubing known as "fer elegi".
Earlier Arras furniture has lion's paw style feet. These smart chairs have horse's hooves, dating them as later Arras, probably between 1900 and 1908. This style of foot plus the fact that they don't have a full back identifies them as the type known as "Chaise No. 1".
An elegant and collectible pair, they would look wonderful on a chic little balcony or gracing your patio.
French, early 20th century.
